Junior Savings

Junior savings

Our Junior Savings account is available from birth to 18 and is perfect for anyone who wants to save for their children or grandchildren.

To open an account the Junior Saver must live within the Borough's of Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Bleanau Gwent or RCT or live with a Merthyr Tydfil Credit Union member.  Anyone can contribute to the account but only the guardian/parent who opened the account will have access to the account until the child is old enough to sign themselves (usually age 7+).

How to open an account

Our values are to provide the community with safe, convenient savings and affordable loans and pride ourselves on offering everyone a fair deal regardless to your financial background. When a member deposits money into savings, these are then used to make loans for other Credit Union members. Any profits that are made from our financial year, is shared equally to our members by way of dividend.

Who can join?

1

Fill in an application form. It should be signed by both the Adult Signatory and Junior Saver (if they are old enough to sign, usually age 7+)

2

We will need two forms of ID proving the identity and address of the adult signatory (these are not required if you are already a member of Merthyr Credit Union)

3

If the Junior Saver is joining through one of our School Savings Scheme then we are happy for the Headteacher or school Secretary to confirm the child's identity and address.

How can I pay into the account

You can pay into a Junior Savings account by any of the payment methods we offer. For instance if you already have a payment coming into the Credit Union from payroll, standing order, benefits etc then this can be split between a number of accounts held

The Junior member can also pay in by cash or cheque our office, service points or through our School Savings Scheme

For all new Junior accounts opened the young saver will receive a FREE piggy bank once their first deposit is made!

All Junior Savers need to look out for our Mascot Tydfil! You will see him on your paperwork and at your School Collection Point.
