Who can become a Member?

We are FREE to join!

You can join our Credit Union, providing you work or live within the area of: Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Rhondda Cynon Taff.
If you are a current member, but have moved out of the area, you are still eligible to save with us. Alternatively if you are not eligible to join our Credit Union, you can visit "Find Your Credit Union". This link will help you find a Credit Union within your area.

We offer different savings accounts for adults and juniors but our accounts are great for ages 2 to 102! For more information on the accounts we offer.

We offer savings accounts to children who live within the Borough of Merthyr Tydfil, or are children of existing members.

Why save with us?

Regular savers are eligible to apply for loans at a preferential rate.

If you are already Member and want to open a Christmas Savings or Prize Linked Savings account either download the forms from this website, fill in and return the form to Merthyr Tydfil Borough Credit Union, 139 High Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8DN or email us info@mtbcu.org.uk or call us on 01685 377888 and we will  send you the required for.

A Rainy Day account can be opened without an application form.

You can also apply by calling into our office at 139 High Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8DN for a form.

We will try to verify your identity using the information you provide. However, if we are unable to do this we will ask you for two forms of ID, either photographic ID (passport or driver’s license) and a utility bill or bank statement.

Once the forms have been completed, we’ll set up the account and help you find the easiest way to save and borrow.

You must keep a minimum of £2.00 in your credit union account to keep it open.
