Adult Savings
We offer many different adult savings accounts to our valued members. Find out more below.
Christmas Savings
Spread the cost of Christmas throughout the year by saving regularly into an account where the funds become available from 1st November each year.
You must be a member with an Adult Saver account to become a Christmas Saver with us.
Junior Savings
We offer savings accounts to children who live within the Borough of Merthyr Tydfil, or are children of existing members.
Prize Saver
Win up to £5,000 while you save
£5,000 first prize and 20 additional money prizes every month
A CHANCE TO WIN BY SAVING as little as £1 every month
Why and how save with us?
Regular savers are eligible to apply for loans at a preferential rate.
So the more you save the more you can borrow and the lower the interest rate. (t&c apply; Check out out Loans for further details).
Life Insurance is included up to £10,000 on your savings (t&c apply). There are no hidden charges of fees on any transaction
How can you pay money into your Savings account?
You can pay in cash and cheques into the office at 139 High Street in Merthyr Tydfil, Monday to Friday 9.30am to 2.30pm
Via Standing Order from your bank account.
Via MoneyWorks Wales payroll deduction, saving directly from your pay.
With cash/cheque at one of our Community Collection Points

Already a member? Opening a savings account is easy.
To open a Christmas Savings Account or a Prize-Linked Savings Account, simply download and complete the relevant form and return it to us at Merthyr Tydfil Borough Credit Union, 139 High Street, Merthyr Tydfil, CF47 8DN or email it to: info@mtbcu.org.uk
If you’d like to open a rainy day Account, there’s no need to complete a form — just give us a call on 01685 37788 and we’ll take care of it.
Keeping Your Account Safe
To protect you and your money, we’ll try to verify your identity using the details you provide. If we can’t do this electronically, we’ll simply ask for:
- One form of photographic ID (passport or driving licence), and
- One proof of address (utility bill, bank statement, or Department for Work & Pensions letter).
- Our team will guide you through this if needed.

Once everything is in place, we’ll set up your account and get in touch to help you find the easiest way to save — and, when you need it, borrow affordably too.
