Launch of new Community Collection Point at Kevin Ryan Court in Merthyr Tydfil
On Monday 27th October 2025 the residents of Kevin Ryan Court relaunched their Credit Union Collection Point.
Kevin Ryan Court is a sheltered housing complex in Merthyr Tydfil, owned by Merthyr Housing Association. However, the Community Collection Point is a resident led initiative run by the Chair and Treasurer of the Tenants Group to support their financial wellbeing and provide an opportunity to bring the residents together.
The Community Collection Point restarted on 27th October with 5 new savers and will be held every Monday at 10.30am in the communal lounge of the 42 flat complex in Georgetown.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Karen Sherbourne, Treasurer of Kevin Ryan Tenants Group said ‘I’m pleased to be part of the relaunch of the Collection Point, saving is so important for everyone and having a weekly savings point here in the scheme is a good thing for all the residents’
Delyth Shearing Manager, Merthyr Tydfil Borough Credit Union commented ‘When Covid19 struck all our Collection Points closed and members and local residents lost access to in person Saving and Borrowing with the Credit Union. So, seeing Kevin Ryan Court, a formerly busy Collection Point back up and running supporting residents and their families again is great news.’
Emma Crowhurst, Senior Housing Officer at Merthyr Housing Association added ‘We are so pleased to welcome the new Credit Union Collection Point to our scheme, it’s about more than financial services, it’s a great way to bring residents together, build connections and make sure everyone who may feel more isolated feels part of a more caring, inclusive community.’
The next Collection will be held on Monday 3rd November 2025 at 10.30am in the communal lounge, if you want to save, borrow or find out more information and live in Kevin Ryan Court come along.
